BEACON STAFF
Beacon staff are committed to supporting all students at MLK as well as the MLK community. As Beacon staff, we are part of grade level committees that help to ensure the success of all students at MLK. Staff support with learning, developing social skills, and solving conflict. Beacon Staff are always around to help out. You can find Beacon staff supporting with Push-ins, MLK Community Events, lunch time activities and much more.

Jibraan has been working in youth development and community organizing in San Francisco since 2009. During this time, he taught in SFUSD classrooms and directed high quality and innovative afterschool and summer programs at Hillcrest and Visitation Valley Elementary Schools. Jibraan came to MLK in 2018 as the new Beacon Director. At MLK Beacon and in all of his roles, he believes in building strong teams that provide meaningful experiences and opportunities to students and families who are under-resourced and may not have access due to inequity and systemic racism in our city. Outside of work, he is a musician and is passionate about all things music. He loves being outdoors, running, hiking, and playing golf.

Navida was born and raised in San Francisco and attended SFUSD throughout her academic journey. Navida comes from a big family, she was raised with 10 brothers and sisters. She is very passionate about working and supporting youth in their development and overall growth at MLK middle school. Navida enjoys cooking, painting, arts and crafts, STEAM activities, music and much more. She looks forward to getting to know our youth, developing a trusting relationship, and helping them on their journey through middle school at MLK.

Riza is an MLK Alumni (class of 2017) and has been a volunteer since graduating from there. She is now working with the MLK Beacon team and helping coach the middle school’s soccer teams. She has attended UC Riverside as a studio arts major and will continue working on her bachelor’s within art back in San Francisco. She is proud to serve and give back to the MLK and Bayview community she grew up in and create a safe space for all students. Outside of supporting the youth, she loves all things art and watching sitcoms.

Eva has been working at MLK as a morning care safety leader for about a year. Before coming to MLK she was working in the Teen Center at YMCA Hunters Point. Outside of work she really enjoys watching football and is is a big 49ers fan.

Eric is one of our dedicated high school volunteers who attended MLK Middle himself. He came to Beacon afterschool program all three years and then decided to return as a volunteer. Erick has helped during our summer program and is on his second year as a youth volunteer. When he's not helping Beacon, he can usually be found playing video games.

Grecia Mendez graduated from SFSU with a BA in Child Adolescent Development and BA in Raza Studies. She is married aa mother of a 3-year-old boy and two Jack Russell Terrier doggies. She was raised in a small border town called El Centro and is fluent in Spanish. She has been in the Beacon network for over 10 years serving the Bayview community. Started as a volunteer and now is the Site Director for MLK Beacon. Over the course of her career, she has run many programs but really enjoyed being an advisor for Youth and Government and Model United Nations. Grecia is very passionate about her work, committed to supporting her community, especially the Latino community and cares deeply about her staff.

Roberto has been happily and faithfully serving our community at MLK for the last two and a half years. Some of his passions outside of youth work include playing games on PC, watching anime, and photography. Roberto is currently working towards a Bachelor's degree in Theology and has a background working in the automotive industry.

Anthony was raised in the Mission and attended SFUSD growing up. He is our Safety and Support Leader at MLK Middle School. Anthony attends classrooms to give extra support to our teachers when needed and helps students stay focused and attentive. Anthony also helps run activities during after school and is always making sure our students are safely picked up. Outside of work, Anthony loves to watch football and is a big 49ers Fan.

John-Michael Williams has been a part of the MLK community for 11 years. He is a student success advocate and is equally dedicated to his role as the head flag football coach. John-Michael is a die hard Raider fan and a die hard pro wrestling fan. His goal is for our MLK youth to be successful in their academics and in their sports.

Jenniffer is originally from Los Angeles and moved to San Francisco to attend SF State University. There they got their bachelors in Liberal Studies and minored in Counseling. After working a year of being both a paraprofessional and beacon staff, she is excited to dedicate herself fully as a student support specialist to support all students while creating an environment where all students can feel safe and welcomed. On their free time she enjoys craft/art projects, taking care of her plants and hanging out with her black cat.

Mario has been working for The YMCA for over 10 years. He is one of our safety and support staff who makes sure our students are safely picked up from program. When Mario isn't working at Beacon he can be found DJing an event.

Raisa Ebner has been a teacher at MLK for 5 years. They have worked directly with Beacon for the last two years by supporting with math content and providing volunteer opportunities. In her spare time they like to camp, dragon boat and read! They are excited to support all students at MLK but especially those that give them snacks.
